WHY DO CATHOLICS GO TO SUNDAY MASS?

“Take this all of you and eat of it, for this is My Body Which will be given up for you!”

  THERESIAN YEAR

“He will see that whoever loves Him much will be able to suffer much for Him; whoever loves Him little will be capable of little. I myself hold that the measure for being able to bear a large or small cross is love.”

2016 CATHOLIC APPEAL

As of Wednesday, August 9, we have received $78,539.82 from 319 parishioners. This is 95% of our parish goal of $83,004.46- - - we are only $4,464. 64 short!! If you have been meaning to contribute to the 2016 Catholic Appeal and have not done so yet, it would be a good and holy thing if you could help us achieve our goal. This would assure that the parish reaches its goal and receives a rebate. Even a small gift will help us. If you have not contributed to the Appeal or did not receive the information in the mail, the envelopes are at the doors of the Church and in the Pavilion as you leave Mass today and are also available at the rectory. Thank you for your support of the 2016 Catholic Appeal.

Steeped in a rich history that spans three centuries, Bristol, Rhode Island is a quintessential New England waterfront town. The town center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and
with its unwavering commitment to preservation, Bristol continues
to maintain the picture-perfect charm of a historic port town. The
well-preserved waterfront district contains the commercial enterprises, civic buildings, churches, mills, sailors' shacks and slavetraders' mansions that tell the history of Bristol's development
since its founding in 1680. Bristol holds the distinction of having
the oldest, continuous Fourth of July Celebration, first held in 1785,
was started by Bristolians who actually took part in the Revolutionary War thus welding a permanent tie with our modern Celebrations. Bristol’s original fervor in celebrating Independence Day was nurtured by extreme hardships suffered during the Revolution. This fervor continues today as Bristol becomes arguably the most patriotic town in America during the three-week Celebration
which culminates in the gala Parade on Independence Day
which is watched by over 200,000 enthusiastic people.

LOOK WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ST THERESA'S SCHOOL!!!

In the wonderful news department, I am very happy to announce the following: Jean Leahy will join St. Theresa School as Principal in September. Jean started her career teaching in the Boston Public Schools and during her tenure held many teaching and administrative positions. For the last five years she served as Principal of a private special education school. Jean has a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Master’s of Education in Teaching from the University of Massachusetts and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Special Education from Regis College. Jean lives with her family in Westwood and is a member of St. Denis Parish. She is excited to join the St. Theresa Parish family and feels truly blessed to have been chosen for this position, which she has described to me as an honor. I, myself, am extremely happy that Jean has accepted this responsibility, and I know that everyone in Saint Theresa’s School, especially the students, their families, the teachers, and the staff will be very pleased with our new Principal. In a very special way, I want to use this note to express my gratitude and appreciation to the members of the Search Committee, who worked long and diligently to find Jean, and also, my thanks go to Christopher Flieger at the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Boston, who was extremely helpful to the Search Committee as the facilitator of their hard work. SAINT THERESA'S SCHOOL BUILDING MAINTENANCE ENVELOPE

Each month the packet of weekly envelopes which you receive at your home includes an envelope marked “School Support”. Some Parishioners return this envelope each month with a donation, and for that I am extremely grateful. These donations directly support the cost of operating our school. From the beginning of our current fiscal year pn 7/1/14 to 4/13/15, you have donated $10,908. This is a great help to the cause of Catholic Education here in our own Parish. The expense of running the School this fiscal year will exceed two million dollars, and tuition covers less than 85% of expenses! Therefore, we are very dependent on donations and fund-raising to make up the difference. I want to extend my special thanks to the School PTA and the School Staff and to all those who work so hard on the fund-raising program. Knowing all this, I hope you will continue to keep Saint Theresa’s School in your thoughts and prayers. My thanks to all of you who donate to our School. Be assured of a remembrance in my Masses and prayers.
Reverend Monsignor William M. Helmick
